Oris Aigbokhaevbolo is an award-winning writer and critic from Nigeria. He has earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and is one of the most respected film writers based in Africa. In 2023, he co-founded the literary magazine Efiko. He has reviewed films at and reported on several festivals, including the Durban International Film Festival, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Berlin Film Festival, Cannes, Sundance, and Africa’s oldest film festival, FESPACO. In 2022, he spoke at the media expo CABSAT in Dubai and was invited to a panel on media diversity and inclusion at the 2021 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. In 2015, he won the AFRIMA award for Entertainment Journalist of the Year. And in 2018, his work as an editor was awarded by Felabration, the annual festival dedicated to the life and music of Fela Anikulapo Kuti. For a half-decade, he led a team of writers as the Anglophone West African editor at Music In Africa, a project supported by the German Cultural Centre (otherwise known as the Goethe Institut). Oris has contributed to the New York Review, Chimurenga, the Washington Post, the Africa Report, the London Review of Books, the Guardian UK, and Sight and Sound. His reviews and commentary regularly appear in the Film Verdict and Sight and Sound. He will publish a decade-spanning collection of essays, interviews, and reviews on Nollywood cinema, Afrobeats music, and the African literary scene in the the last quarter of 2023.
